Entertainment

We have a fantastic line up of entertainment on the night. The line-up consists of:

Before beginning the meal, there will be a peformance of the Chinese Lion Dance by the Irish Chinese Chiu Chung Lung Ying Academy. The Irish Chinese Chiu Chung Lung Ying Academy is a non-profit, limited company by guarantee, who teach traditional Chinese Kung Fu and Tai-Chi. They teach it using the original philosophy - while Tai-Chi and Kung Fu are martial arts, they are practiced primarily for health & fitness - for strengthening the body, mind and spirit. The self-defense aspect is an added (and extremely effective) bonus. A third aspect of traditional Shaolin Kung Fu is healing - this is something not often seen in the movies! The originators of the style (Lung Ying) were Shaolin monks - it was their philosophy that if they were to learn how to inflict damage, then they should learn how to help people, to counter-balance this... it is the Yin/Yang. It is a philosophy that the Chief instructor, Nick Costello, carries on today.

Where does the Lion dance come into this? It is another aspect of helping people - the Lion dance is traditionally performed at the start of a venture (in this instance the MagicMum Charity Ball) to scare away negative spirits/energy and draw in positive energy. It does this through a combination of loud, crashing music from the drum, gong and cymbals and strong, powerful movements of the Lion. For more details visit the website http://www.kungfu.ie.

Just after dinner, the Jackson School of Dancing will perform Celtic Vision. This medley will consist of Irish dance varying from traditional to contemporary. Some members of the dance troupe are just back from the All-Ireland and International Dance Championships, where they all did very well!

Following this, The Cubes will take the stage! The Cubes, formed in May 1993, have become one of Ireland's leading acts. The reaction they received when they supported Michael Bolton on his world tour at Dublin's Point Theatre to 8,000 people was incredible. Seldom has a supporting act taken such command of it's audience, leaving them screaming for more at the end of the set. The Cubesfeatures Karen Black on vocals. Karen's reputation as a top class session singer over recent years is second to none. As a backing vocalist she has appeared on every major T.V. show on RTE, BBC and UTV networks including two Eurovision song contests. Karen is joined on stage by Eugene McCarthy (Keyboards and vocals) and Tommy Somers (Guitar and vocals). During their set they perform both Irish and International songs with tremendous conviction. Their musical versatility and vocal strength has proved to be a great success in the Wedding entertainment field. They are employed by all the top Entertainment Agencies for all their various clients.
